Denmark and Turkey – another tie

The Scandinavian team trails for a long time in the first half. After a good start in the second they could do have done better than 23:23 (9:12) though. Turkey show strong dependence on top-scorer Mustafa Ozbay.

Best player of Denmark: Lars Lövvig

Video-Highlights

For eight years Denmark hasn’t participated in a deaf handball-EC. That the Scandinavians do not have abundant match-experience was visible quickly in their first game against Turkey. Coach Louise Karup’s team played well in the beginning but the closer towards half-time the more mistakes they made.

Their opponents used any bad pass or failed chance for their advantage to establish a lead of 12:9 till half-time. In the break the Danish team re-adjusted their strategies successfully. In minute 37 they took the lead at 14:13. Mads Jensen added up to 18:14. But that didn’t mean defeat for the Turks. In spite of double short-handedness they reduced the lead to only one goal. Mustafa Ozbay used his height once again to his advantage.

The Turkish No. 18 scored 9 goals altogether. Among them the 21:20 goal that marked the change of lead. After a turbulent ending-phase with lots of two-minute-penalties the teams finished 23:23.

Since Germany-Russia played a tie as well everything is still possible in group A after the first day.

Goals Denmark:
Olsen 2, Löwig 8, Jensen 9, Kleczewski 2, Klold 2

Goals Turkey:
Kilzilkay 3, Denil 2, Sahin 1, Gundogdu 1, Atak 5, Tuna 2, Ozbay 9
